I heard this song in a BBC documentary called Rude Britannia, but I recognized it from my own reading – it’s one of the songs in Wit and Mirth, or Pills to Purge Melancholy by Thomas d’Urfey, an early-18th century compendium of over 1000 songs. The lyrics and music below are from that volume. We may come back to this in a later book …
